The Gambia has also been elected to serve as a member of the Candidatures Committee of the African Union for the period 2012 which will provide leverage and raise the country’s image within the continent as The Gambia will be partaking in the selection of candidates for election to prestigious and

important positions within the international arena to serve the continent’s interest.

Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad expresses thanks and gratitude to His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya A.J.J.Jammeh, President of the Republic of The Gambia and gives him all commendation due to his esteemed personality for the magnificent edifice that the Government of The Gambia erected in Addis Ababa to house the Chancery building of the Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Mission to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The Ministry registers that this is a first in the history of The Gambia and that the building stands boldly to the admiration and envy of many.

The Ministry thus seizes the opportunity, on behalf of its staff, those of the Embassy of The Gambia in Addis Ababa, and the Gambian community in Ethiopia to express sincere thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the President for the foresight and leadership, together with the requisite resources which facilitated the construction of the Chancery building, and highlights its delight that the gesture will exemplify His Excellency the President’s commitment to ensuring that The Gambia takes its rightful place in the comity of nations.
