Press Release on the Convening of the First Consultative Meeting between the Government of The Gambia and Gambians in the Diaspora, 3rd - 4th January 2012

The general public is hereby informed that under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, the First (1st) Consultative Meeting between the Government of the Republic of The Gambia and

Gambians in the Diaspora will be convened on 3rd and 4th January 2012 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel, Kololi, The Gambia.

The main objective of the Consultative Meeting is to harness the potentials and talents of Gambians in the Diaspora, including those serving in International Organizations and others engaged in private ventures which can be beneficial to the country.  Thus, the meeting will facilitate the evaluation of the extent to which latent potential residing in Diaspora nationals, could be utilized to the fullest in support of Vision 2020 goals and objectives.

Furthermore, the meeting will be availed with presentations from different sectors which will provide the participants with an opportunity to explore and better appreciate The Gambia’s socio-economic development strategy in its various dimensions and ramifications. The presentations will focus on national development priority areas that would stimulate the interest of our Gambian invitees to intervene or assist in mobilizing resources and expertise in their countries of abode for the various sectors of the Gambian economy.

To this end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to request the participation of Gambians in the Diaspora, including those working in International organizations and those engaged in successful businesses, Representatives of Gambian Associations, as well as development partners of The Gambia. All Government and Non-governmental institutions in The Gambia are also invited to attend and participate in the said consultative meeting.

As partners in development, members of the private sector are also invited to participate and interact with the Gambia Government and Gambians in the Diaspora during the said meeting for mutual benefit.
